The Place Located in a corner coffeeshop at the void deck of a HDB in Toa Payoh, Hao Kee Seafood Deluxe is one of the more memorable Zi Char meals I had this year. It occupies a stall within the coffeeshop right opposite SPH office in the vicinity. The Food As there were only three of us, I only managed to try four dishes, all from its signature menu which goes by a photo album on the menu. There are many other more commonly seen Zi Char dishes, hence I would recommend going straight for the signatures if you have limited appetite. The best dish I had here is definitely the signature Chao Tar Bee Hoon (S$12/medium). Medium size is just right for 2-3 persons, where the bee hoon here spots a slightly charred texture. It is not overly burnt, yet it packs a good and aromatic ‘wok hei’ flavour. It is so good that I couldn’t stop eating this. The Kailan and Pork Floss (S$12/small) is another dish I enjoyed.
