Food Review: Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee at Hong Lim Food Centre, Chinatown | The Best Char Kway Teow in Singapore?

The Place How often do you get two Michelin Bib Gourmand stalls right opposite each other? Not very often, but it is really coincidental that both Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee and Tai Wah Pork Noodles are the latest entrants to the coveted food list at Hong Lim Food Centre. After having Tai Wah Pork Noodles recently, I made another trip down to have Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee, even though I had it once few years back. The queue at Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee has always been long way before its Bib Gourmand days, and be prepared to wait from any time between 15 minutes to an hour on average. The Food The stall has been around for decades, with prices from S$4, where addition of cockles at S$2 and egg at S$0.50 apply. I went for the portion with an extra egg, which is relatively standard size and will probably not be filling enough for a hungry soul. The Fried Kway Teow Mee here is characterised by its fragrant flavour, where each strand of the Kway Teow is fried to a very soft texture filled with ‘wok hei’, where it is fried in batches [...]
