The Place Just like most famous restaurants in the world, there are many spin-offs of Katong Laksa, with the original well-known Katong Laksa being Janggut Laksa currently located at Roxy Square. I was recommended to try Katong Laksa (George’s) along Changi Road near Telok Kurau by my foodie friend and we headed together to the coffeeshop where it stands. Interestingly, it is not a huge coffeeshop and there is only one food stall which sells Katong Laksa. The Food The smallest version is priced at S$4.50, followed by S$5 and S$6. I went for the largest bowl at S$6, which frankly is very manageable despite my small appetite. I love how rich the gravy looks, a nice orange and red hue over the bowl. I don’t take cockles, though I know it is an integral component of a Katong/Nonya Laksa. Firstly, the broth is thick and lemak in flavour. As with other Katong Laksa versions, it is easy to eat with the spoon as the noodles are already cut into short slices. I really enjoyed the broth, it does not taste too rich and there is a less sinful guilt to finishing it psychologically. It also comes with thin slices of fish cakes and fresh prawns.
