The Place Located along Jalan Besar Road, Sum Dim Sum is a few months old Dim Sim restaurant which is located just one street from the famous Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant. The contemporary looking restaurant occupies a narrow shophouse space which is in my opinion, a bold head on competition with the well-established Swee Choon just a stone’s throw away. Does it live up to expectations? The Food There are at least 40 dishes on the Dim Sum menu with most of the items priced moderately below S$5. I started with the Fresh Prawn Dumpling with Asparagus (S$4.90), a small twist to the traditional ‘Har Gow’. With a thin skin filling, this dumpling didn’t leave much of an impression on me despite adding asparagus to the filling. The Scallop Rice Roll (S$7.90) I had is wrapped with small scallops within the rather thin rice roll. The flavour is not too bad, while the scallops are fresh. Nothing out of the ordinary though. Skip the Pan Fried Carrot Cake (S$4.50) which lack the aromatic flavour I was expecting. The texture of the fried carrot cake is also too soft.
